A Core Strategy For Every Maverick

4 Reasons Why You Need To Make Your Business A Great Place To Work

need 6 people now and I can’t find them”, was the statement from this leader. This past week I had numerous conversations with fellow Mavericks regarding how difficult it is to find good people. Each leader echoed the same frustration; hit the same roadblock. They were missing out on business opportunities because they couldn’t find values-based, competent people who would join their team to help move the business forward. Sound familiar?

How do you create a compelling reason for values-based, competent people to join your team and stay?

One core strategy is to create a place where your team tells their friends and family that your business is a great place to work.

Look at these 4 stats from the Great Place To Work Institute.

  1. 2 X’s Annual Returns: Great Place To Work companies perform nearly 2x better than the general market
  1. 3 X’s Cumulative Returns: The best companies provide nearly 3x cumulative return over the general stock market.
  1. High Trust = 12 X’s Profit: Great Place To Work employees experience high trust 50% more than their peers. In these companies high trust equals a 12 fold in profits.
  1. Voluntary Turn Over: On average the 100 best companies see ~ 50% less voluntary turnover relative to their industry peers.

Here is what is meant by a great place to work according to the Great Place To Work Institute.

The Team

The Leader

Although the above stats are from large companies, we see the same trends applying to the Maverick business leaders we serve. Consider the impact of being a great place to work on your business. What would be the impact on you, your team, your clients, your personal world, if…

  • Your annual and cumulative returns were 2 and 3 x’s your industry average?
  • Your team experience was so great that trust was so high that it drove a 12-fold increase in profit?
  • The great people you worked so hard to recruit stayed providing a 50% less turn over rate relative to your industry average?

Choosing to have your business experienced by your team as a great place to work is not for the faint of heart. It will require you to be a Maverick. It will require you to be different, not because you can but because it is the right thing to do.

Here is the challenge! As Mavericks, our 1st priority is NOT making a “Great Place To Work”! It is to seek Jesus 1st, His kingdom and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33).

Jesus has called you to seek Him first as you lead your self, your team, your business into being a great place to work. All things being equal this will produce a long-term sustainable business with a great team culture – and a solid financial return.

The results are clear from the stats. Are you experiencing this kind of “people and profit” return in your business as you seek Him 1st?

A Maverick Application:

  1. Would you describe your business as a Kingdom focused, great place to work”? Why or why not?
  2. How would you score trust in your team – High Medium Low?
  3. How would your team describe it?
  4. What’s the impact on your ability to serve your clients and deliver above industry average profit?
