A Maverick Mindset…

Are You Owning Your Attitude?

Not many things impact Mavericks more than the mindset we choose as we engage with ourselves, God, and others. Day in and day out, our mindset has a profound impact on how we…

  • Get out of bed in the morning.
  • View self and others.
  • Hire good, talented people to join our team.
  • Conduct exit interviews
  • Engage in the beauty of work on a Monday morning.
  • May or may not take time to “smell the roses” imbedded in the small moments of every day living.
  • Engage with our loved ones after a very full, and maybe very challenging, workday.
  • Love and feel loved.

Impossible Blog Low QualityMindset is a peculiar term. It is not often spoken of directly. And yet we may know it by another much more common name – “attitude”.

Attitude!

So what’s your mindset – your attitude as you engage with those in your home, your work and your community? How would others describe it?

What is being revealed to you about your mindset – your attitude, as you engage in various circumstances?

The apostle Paul spoke of attitude and mindset directly. He clearly knew that we would be presented with the daily choice of deciding which mindset/attitude we would bring into each and every situation. See if these sound familiar to you…

“Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

Romans 8:5-6 NIV

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Colossians 3:2

Colossians 3:2 in the New Living Translation uses language that helps us understand better what Paul meant by “mindset”. He was clear that we have the capacity to think about things important, and not think about other things that are far less important. A Maverick is clear on the invitation to “think well”!

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.”

In Philippians 2:1-11 NLT  Paul reminds us of the key mindset – attitude we are to bring to one another. We are to adopt the “mindset” – the “attitude” of Christ, as we lead ourselves and others at work and at home.

Circumstances

Chuck Swindoll, pastor and author, produced a statement of attitude that has become well known. He states that life is 90% of how you respond (attitude) and 10% circumstance. I agree!!

In the weeks ahead we will be exploring the different attributes of what makes a Small Biz Maverick. Right off the top, almost nothing surpasses the need for a Godly mindset – a Christ centered attitude. Virtually everything else flows from the mindset & attitude chosen.

How’s your mindset – your attitude?

A Maverick Application:

  1. Read and reflect on Romans 8:5-6, Colossians 3:2 & Philippians 2:1-11.
  2. What’s your mindset as you read these verses?
  3. Is your attitude one that is inviting the One who made you to help you grow and mature into the person you were designed to be?
  4. Ask Him to help you grow as a leader, bringing the attitude and mindset needed to bless Him, you and those around you.
