Maybe you’re the same as me. Today, I don’t feel like I have capacity for more information, more connection, more… What I do need more than ever, in this moment right now, is to SLOW DOWN. I need to hear the voice of the One who loves me, reminding me that I am His child. Rom 8:16 NLT
In this moment I don’t need another sale, another call or text, another opportunity to take hold of or problem to solve. I need to SLOW DOWN in the inner person. Sound familiar?
In this moment, I invite you to pause with me. Take just 5 minutes to breathe slowly and remind yourself of who you are and Whose you are.
Do yourself, and those around you a favour and enjoy this poem by Wilfred Peterson. Read it S.L..O…W….L…..Y and prayerfully. When you are finished send it to someone close to you who may need to “slow down” too!
Slow Me Down, Lord!
Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace.
Give me, amidst the day’s confusion
The calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tension of my nerves and muscles
With the soothing music of singing streams
That live in my memory.
Help me to know the magical, restoring power of sleep.
Teach me the art
Of taking minute vacation…
Slowing down to look at a flower,
To chat with a friend,
To read a few lines from a good book.
Remind me of the fable of the hare and tortoise;
That the race is not always to the swift;
That there is more to life than measuring its speed.
Let me look up at the branches of the towering oak
And know that…it grew slowly…and well.
Inspire me to send my own roots down deep
Into the soil of life’s endearing values…
That I may grow toward the stars of my greater destiny.
Slow me down Lord.
A Maverick Application:
- SLOWLY read and reflect on the poem and on Psalm 46:10.
- What are your inner thoughts saying about your pace at work and at home?
- What are others telling you?
- What is God telling you?
