But we don’t have enough time”, was the response of this business leader as we worked through the challenges of creating a remarkable customer experience. Although their desire was in the right place, their willingness to engage in the disciplined pursuit of remarkable was cautious and maybe even clouded. I have this conversation multiple times a week.
The volume of work and pressure that this leader was grappling with was clouding a CRUCIAL reality. Losing sight of this, and not refocusing it, would result in another small business owner choosing to be average – a conforming to the ever-pressing, over demanding, unforgiving world around them.
Our team at DeliberateU is no different. The press of work and time can cloud our view as quick as anyone’s. Frequent recalibrations are needed.
As Christ-following leaders, I know of no other option other than the courageous pursuit of offering remarkable service to those on the team and to those the team serves.
Take a look at these verses and see if you agree….
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23 NIV
“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.“ Philippians 4:8 NLT
“Since you excel in so many ways—in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us—I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.” 2 Corinthians 8:7 NLT
To pursue a life of excellence in all you do is not optional. It is not a nice suggestion. We are called to pursue offering remarkable in all we do.
Living a life of excellence, pursuing remarkable is not for the faint of heart. It will require everything you have. For this to happen you will need one thing to make this happen. Miss this and the rest will result in feeble effort, frustrated people, and wasted time. Courage!
As Michael Hyatt, said in a recent blog post…”If we are going to create “wow” experiences we must become courageous.”
The courageous pursuit of remarkable is about focusing on a destination to which you will NEVER arrive. It is about the whole-hearted engagement in the journey. If you are not pursuing REMARKABLE then what are you pursuing?
Are you pursuing a courageously, remarkable experience…
- In your engagement of knowing Christ and making Him known? If He is who He says He is can you justify any other pursuit?
- In your family…single, spouse, kids, grandkids, parents…whatever your circumstance may be?
- In your care of self…body, thoughts, emotions and spirit?
- For your team at work… so that you are helping them learn, grow and become a better version of themselves?
- For your clients / customers… so that the trust of their time and money has been a wonderful exchange of value.
- For your suppliers so that they know you will treat them with honor and respect.
Business leaders…time to be courageous; time to relentlessly pursue being remarkable in all you do and offer!
A Deliberate Application:
As you consider the verses on excellence, how’s your pursuit of excellence, of offering remarkable? Good or best?
