We have to!

Business owner…judgment or judgmental?

We have to! We have to make decisions every day that affect the lives of people in our employ, our customers, suppliers and community.

Every time we make a decision, we exercise judgment…hopefully wise judgment.

But what is the difference between being a small business leader who has good judgment vs. one who is judgmental?

It’s what you “see”; it’s what I “see”!

Do we see the significant LOG in our own eye as we evaluate the “speck” in the eye of the other person? Matthew 7:1-5 NLT

Do we see the other person as one of great worth, of immense value, of being created in the image of the One who loves them…loves us so very much? Genesis 1:27 NLT

Do we see the need to have courage, to engage, to step in and bring good judgment as we evaluate a situation, an attitude, an action that is not in the direction needed? Joshua 1:9 NIV

Do we see that as we exercise good judgment, the seductive need to be right is crouching just around the corner? Genesis 4:6-7 NLT

As leaders, you and I must make decisions every day. We must grow in our capacity to make decisions informed by good judgment.

I continue to be sobered about my own challenges of being a leader of good judgment and at the same time not being judgmental.

How about you?

Deliberate Application:

  1. Take some time to reflect on how you ‘see’ people who disagree with, or are challenging you.
  2. Do you ‘see’ them from a position of being wrong (you being right) or do you see them from God’s perspective? Ask for His direction in understanding what He is leading you to hear/see/understand about yourself, about that person and the situation.
  3. Sometimes, difficult conversations need to be pressed into….informed by good judgment.  Is there a difficult conversation that you are struggling to press into?  What is stopping you from pressing in?
  4. Who can you share this with?
