Twice in one day! The first time was early in the morning. I was feeling the weight of a number of significant challenges on behalf of extended family, clients, and our own team. I was realizing that fatigue seemed like it was “right around the corner”.
The second time was while sitting with a business owner reflecting on his own pace, pressures, and priorities. For this leader, fatigue was, again, right there.
I remembered Paul’s words in Galatians 6:9-10. MSG. Paul’s clarity is on one hand frustrating because I can do something about my fatigue. On the other hand, his clarity is encouraging because I can do something about my fatigue.
Your energy has a direct impact on the engagement of your team. Your energy has a direct impact on the quality and sustainability of leading a business culture that attracts and keeps great people.
Here are 9 steps you can take today to begin to operate with far greater energy – an energy that is attractive to your team and to those you would love to have join your team.
Say “Yes” to these 5 tremendous energy builders
- Choose to be still and know that God is your God, again and again! Psalm 46:10
- Say “yes” and create your own personal inner circle. Deliberately seek and build a community of godly men and women who are committed to Christ, to you, and to your ongoing success in Him. Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV
- Pursue passion, clarity, and focus on God’s calling on your life as a Christ-following business leader, pursue it for a lifetime, and pursue it daily! Proverbs 29:18 KJV
- Rigorously say, “Yes” only to the priorities God has for you as you lead yourself, your home, and your business. Matthew 6:33 NLT
- Move, move, move! Yes, get moving. Care for your body, your heart, and your mind. Bonus, in all likelihood, your good ideas came not while sitting at your desk; they came in the shower, on a walk, or working out. Moving. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT
Say “No” to these 4 massive energy drainers
- Stop filling your calendar with “low” or maybe even “no” value activity. Stop giving away your best energy to things that do not matter, things that waste your time. Psalm 90:12 NLT
- Decide to no longer participate in gossip or in conversations that are not about the other person’s best interest. In the long term, gossip not only drains energy it is a relationship killer. Proverbs 16:28 NLT
- Negative talk about self and others is just that, negative! So why do it? Ephesians 4:29 NIV
- Don’t hang out with negative people. Be careful whom you choose to impact your heart and mind. Are they energy builders or energy drainers? 1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV
You cannot give energy if you do not have it to give. Your energy directly impacts the energy of the team. Is your energy level inviting?
